Press Box Podcast – Episode 8

April 20th, 2011, 12:30 am · 5 Comments · posted by

We all know the old phrase of “there’s no ‘I’ in team.”

There’s no ‘I’ in “podcast,” either. But that’s not going to stop us from talking about a couple of special standout athletes in this week’s episode of the Press Box Podcast.

And, of course, we’ll have our breakdown of baseball and softball rankings, too.

We’re interested in getting listener e-mail posts. If you have a question you think should be answered on air, fire me an e-mail at rlahue@appealdemocrat.com and we’ll see what we can do.

And yes, you can listen to individual segments, because we’re all about customer service around these parts!

Segment 1 (12:37): Jimmy Graben talks about the latest round of baseball and softball rankings. The postseason is getting closer…and closer…and closer…

Segment 2 (8:45): Ryan Klocke talks about Maxwell’s Steven Perry and the national media attention making its way out to northern Colusa County for his four straight no-hitters.

Segment 3 (6:23): Andy Arrenquin with a look back on his story on River Valley’s Kym Crosby, a legally blind sprinter smoking competition on the track (and she’ll probably do the exact same thing up at Chico State next year).

YC and Maxwell now have a commen opponet, Victory Christian. Maxwell, Pitches their best pitcer, Perry and walks with a close 2-0 win.

YC pitches thier #2 pitcher, gets a 1 hitter and wins the game 8-0. Now what to do with the rankings?

Wells/Perry and two others on Maxwell can play with anyteam, no disagrement here. But it is #5 thru 9 players that make the difference here. YC has the better team top to bottom. It would be that group that would make the difference in a game and YC the victory.

Of course, if it was a close game Wells or Perry could win it with one swing of the bat…. Gotta love baseball!

Valley Christian also had their #3 starter (Roush) go against YC, but threw their ace (Shaw) against Maxwell.

And yes, stuff like this is what can make baseball so interesting.

yes and let’s be honest maxwell was a little tite, not playing that type of competition on an everyday basis, …….had they played them (VC) 3 times i’d expect 3 wins and likely the third being closer to that 8 to 0 win. This honker team is not near the level of the past teams and i’d argue the 5 to 9 players being better as well….I’d be willing to bet the Maxwell squad would play YC just about anytime and anyplace they have nothing to lose, ……i’d take YC in a 3 game series, 2-1 in 3 very close games, and that’s baseball :)

I heard yesterday that Maxwell tried to get a game with both YC and RV, neither accepted. That Maxwell team is legit! They are playing in the Championship game today in Redding. I would love to see a 3 game series between Maxwell and YC. Former teammates going up against each other, Oakley vs. Wells, Olsen vs. Perry. I think I would take Maxwell in 3. Love this game!
