LARGE SCHOOL RANKINGS
1) Sutter (3-0) – The Huskies’ staunch defense will have to stop Cole Hannum.
2) Yuba City (1-2) – Shutting down Bella Vista’s spread offense is paramount.
3) Wheatland (2-0) – Lincoln will be an even bigger test than Marysville.
4) River Valley (1-2) – Snapping a two-game skid is the only focus tonight.
5) Marysville (1-1) – Hannum and Co. looking to avenge 7-point loss from 2010.
6) Lindhurst (0-3) – The Blazers are off this week to recuperate.
7) Gridley (0-2) – A Harvest Bowl victory gets the Bulldogs in the win column.
SMALL SCHOOL RANKINGS
1) Live Oak (2-0) – The Lions are seeking their third best Harvest Bowl win.
2) Maxwell (2-0) – Hoopa Valley is a great test for the Panthers.
3) Pierce (2-0) – Isaiah Garcia is the key to winning the 84th Rice Bowl tonight.
4) East Nicolaus (1-1) – Off-the-field distractions will need to be flushed.
5) Williams (2-1) – The Yellowjackets are seeking their second straight Rice Bowl win.
6) Colusa (0-3) – With a bye week, the RedHawks’ losing streak stays at 14.
7) Biggs (0-2) – A win over longtime rival Spartans would be a huge boost.
Wheatland’s first home game… so hopefully you all will eating crow again tonight with your Wheatland predictions!
You will be good on your predictions this week I am thinking. Marysville is not as good this year as last year, and Wheatland isn’t either. Wheatland will get a better test tonight with Lincoln. Don’t get me wrong, I hope Wheatland beats the Zebras, but Lincoln beat Wheatland last year with what might be Wheatlands best team in about 8 years. If Wheatland could not contain Cole last week, they will really have a problem this week. The Lincoln Running back had at least 250 yeards against YC last week and he is big, strong and fastert han Cole. This will be a great test to see where Wheatland is at. Good luck and I hope you can pull this win out tonight.
Sutter will have no problem with Marysville, game will not be close.
The YC/Bella Vista game should be a classic match of two totally different styles. YC will try to control the ground game and the clock, while BV will be throwing the ball all over the field. Good test for YC, Bella Vista is a good team.
Hope RV can get a win tonight agisnt Capital. This may be their only chance to win again this year. Maybe they have a shot at Natomas later in the year.
Live Oak will beat Gridley and bring home the Bowl again to the nice town of Live Oak.
I keep hearing Wheatland isn’t as good as last year… that’s seriously too early to predict! Yes they lost an enormous amount of talent but they have a vertical passing game that they didn’t have last year… Bragg has a cannon! Also, as good as Derick Seward and LaCarlis Moore were last year, we have a few guys that can seriously get it done… especially Tyler Larcum. If he gets in the open field… he’s gone! Also, defense is let by Thomas Aiono who averages 22 extremely hard hits a game! Biggest problem I see is the penalties… they’ve lost mega yards and have had at least 2 or 3 touchdowns called back on penalties! Lincoln’s running back (Allen) did run for 250 yards last week against YC, but he isn’t as big as Hannum! Hannum is a beast! We definitely will be tested this week!
It hurts to say this but it does look like Sutter is the best team in the area… for now! I agree with the Sutter-Marysville prediction. I’m looking forward to the October 28th showdown!
everyone talks about losing derick seward and lacarlis moore were the biggest loses, but what about the o-line which was senior heavy last year? no one has mentioned a single thing about losing the whole o-line which helped all the wheatland runningbacks last year average incredible numbers! wheatlands o-line is very young this year. but wheatland has to keep larcom and aiono healthy for wheatland to have a chance in BVL!
I’m sure I speak for everybody in the sports department when I say that if having to eat crow on a prediction means a local team “made good,” the taste isn’t minded.
That’s good to know you Robert… you may want a side dish when you’re eating that crow tonight! Also… I agree with #1 Wheatland Fan… and yubaman as well! O-Line has only one starter from last year… Tyler Green! If Aiono or Larcum go down as mentioned… they aren’t deep enough to recover from that! Aiono (A-Train) is a beast… I LOVE watching that kid play!
wheatland did lose a lot of players, but the only portion of the team this year that we are missing is the line. Yes, seward was amazing, but larcom has been running the ball his entire life and will run hard and fast and he will put up the numbers. he’s always been the go to kid ever since youth, we just didnt see him last year because we had seward. and with bragg having a good arm, its gonna force defenses to be a bit more honest to the pass allowing the holes to open for larcom.
I truly believe that wheatlands defense is better than last years. last year the defense had a lot of problems, it was pretty soft. this year, they just need to figure out the new defensive schemes that they have. wheatlands two top defensive players from last year were juniors, aiono and larcom. our linebacker core this season is strong.
and with lincoln last year vs this year, the score doesnt show how close the game was. If you were actually there, it was within a couple points until the final minutes when wheatland went for broke and blew the close game to make it look like an absolute pounding, when it wasn’t. lincoln is definitely not as strong as it was in the early games last season before losing a lot of players.
tonight we will see if wheatland truly can be a bvl contender. And i also think the sutter v marysville game will be closer than everyones predicting, but its up to marysville to show up and play their game tonight. if sutter gets in their heads early, its over.
well sutter still showed why it is still #1 in appeal democrat rankings . wheatland won over lincoln, which wasnt a suprise since some of the starters of lincolns are out because of the vandalism of wheatland last year. wheatland still has to play colfax and west valley soon. if they beat either of those teams, sutter better start worrying! wheatland i think will be 4-0 and beat lindhurst next week. then the true journey will start for them!
Time will tell and crow is not bad.
@Bryan- i would not say wheatland defense is better than last year, when you give up 300 yards to one single player, cole hannum. and marysville couldn’t even throw the ball so if you cant stop the only offensive player they use, there must be a problem with the defense
Yubaman, just wondering if you can elaborate on which players from Lincoln were suspended for last nights game for something that happened last year.
John – I’ve always gone with the theory that one player cannot beat a team by themselves. Also, they stopped the Lincoln offense that everyone stated was much better then MHS. But, as always time will tell.
go pirates!
i will tell you right now, hands down, wheatlands defense is a lot more physical than last years. last year we gave up roughly 5 yards every play on the ground. RARELY did we get a stop in the back field. The difference this year is the style of defense wheatland is running vs last years. They completely switched up what they’ve always ran and marysville was the first real test for the defense. They exploited the lack of familiarity wheatland had running the defense, but wheatland made the changes and had a much stronger game vs a better offense with lincoln. Mind you, our top defensive player sat out the first half of lincoln as well.
the offense is more versatile, the defense overall is better. Now they need to just piece it all together and the team will be solid. The line is the biggest concern.
If I may, Wheatland’s defense bent against Marysville. However, when it had to step up they stopped MHS and #8 cold.
