Nice job guys again on the podcast….agree that the YC-RV game was a great atmosphere….was there and watched again how YC struggles to put people in that gym…..is there anyway we can get YC a new gym? Hate to date myself but come on….I played in that gym over 30 years ago, and watching them bring in folding chairs and put them on the floor was not only bad but dangerous for the players in my opinion…..that aside, it was a great game played by two good teams with a couple of great players on each side…..watched RV against Natomas and was not as impressed as I was as last night (with the exception of Boynkin…..he plays well everytime I have seen him play)….Thiara did a great job Fri nite agains Hayes sticking with him everywhere he went on the floor, and also Thiara hit some shots this Fri that he could not make against Natomas…..Hayes what can you say, he does contribute to that team in everyway….even though he was battling a tough man in his face and double teams…he fights through and dishes the ball and also rebounds…..always impressed with his play…..wish the best for YC in the playoffs and we will see if they can get it done on the road…….
Last year the Huskies headed to Winters as the 11 seed and upset the warriors on their home court….tougher task with a battle tested Willows, but have yet to see the Huskies play their best basketball…..they have some players, but need to play together to get the job and upset done again…but if they can do it…..really would be interesting getting back to Farmer’s Hall with another showdown with Gridley…..
Lindhurst, don’t disappoint and they should embarrass East Union….This is the best team in the Area, and I would pay to see them take on Foothill for a chance to go to PBP……
Huskey guy,
First of all hats off to the AD for their basketball coverage and breakdowns this years.
I too was not happy with the decision the Principle at YC made by bringing in chairs and putting them on the floor where they usually aren’t. That was the worst thing done on that night in terms of danger. YC can put the players at risk, but the YC Principle throws out some RV kids who had a picture of RV’s Principle and YC’s principle and called it Fantasy Island (YC’s Mr. Martin was of course Tatoo). He didn’t like the picture, so he made the kid with the poster leave the game. He also threw a RV kid out for just dancing in a manner mocking the band leader of the YC band. No words, just kids having a little fun I thought.
Was a great game to watch though and YC deserved to win. RV just went to long in the second with little defense on anyone except Hayes and those YC players made RV pay for it. I also think Hayes may have lost his streak of 24 double/doubles. I don’t think he had 10 rebounds.
Lindhurst is the best team and that win over Capital should take any argument about it to rest. Lindhurst beat Capital at Capital and held them to 39 points… Just shut down defense.
Best of luck to all the local playoff teams. I am going to following the Lindhurst playoff run, so looking forward to the AD’s and Huskey guys posts on the other local teams.
Agree, the RV kids were having fun and it was or seemed to me anyhow of just harmless antics which adds flavor to the rivalry…..agree also about RV shutting down Hayes which left other players open….that hurt them in the first half where Singh was able to hit 4 3-pointers to put RV behind just far enough to make the comeback difficult. But as I say to our head coach all the time, 3′s are like fools gold sometimes, and all of sudden in the second half YC couldn’t hit those shots and were one and done which gave RV the chance to come back. Love when Boykin gets the ball down low, he works so well from the post and brought RV back to almost snatch the victory.
Congrats to all the Local teams in the 1st round, YC big win on the road over a good Del Campo squad, Lindhurst (best team in the area) great job in dominating East Union and now get another game at home against Vista Del Lago….again please get by them and I wll pay for a seat to watch you guys take on Antelope……and again like last year, my Huskies go on the road and take down a 5 seed at Willows….this game though was a true reason why the SJS is better than the NS, Willows never left the Section for a game all year and clearly were not ready for playoff basketball. Huskies just stayed close then in the 4th quarter when the whistles don’t blow, stronger teams usually can prevail. I think even though we (Huskies) get our nose bloodied down in Sac playing the SJS teams in tourneys, it really helps come playoff time.
2nd round here we come….YC a 6 seed making waves….Lindhurst a solid 4 seed, and the surprising Huskies a 12 seed going back to Farmer’s Hall on Friday…..usually a great atmosphere and good basketball between these two teams…..
Just a correction…my bad….YC is an 11 seed…..and Lindhurst waiting for the Foothill matchup not Antelope…..
That YC Gym is like the old Boston garden with all the banners and that real small town feel. Id hate to see it go just so they can fit more people into 1 or 2 games a year.
“RV has injuries” keeps getting mentioned ad nauseum. Hayes sprained his ankle pretty bad in warmups Friday night and you don’t see anyone lamenting that fact.
If I had to pin RV’s loss on one thing it would be the lack of discipline that resulted in 4 points in technical fouls in a very close game.
Good point on the Technicle foul calls. You are so correct, and I was disapointed in Brad at that time for not pulling the kid out of the game who had the tech called on him. When Boykins committed his foul he stayed in the game as well.
No one knew about Hayes and his ankle if it is as bad as you said because he still started and played and I couldn’t tell he had any injury. I love Matt Hayes and his game by the way. I don’t think the paper made a big issue out of injuries, but it was just mentioned that their #6 player ,(1st guy off the bench) Greg Cannon and their #7 player, Stewart Bradley couldn’t play. I can tell you this, if YC didn’t have Van Dusan and Singh able to play due to injury and YC lost you would have heard the same thing. Injuries are a major part of the game.
Huskeyguy, Just incase you don’t see my post on the regular page, congrats on your teams win last night. What a great win that must have been. Good luck on Friday in what is and has always been a nice local matchup with Gridley. Go Huskies!
Thanks….oruskin….it was big for the kids…they can get so down with the losses and getting playoff wins helps with them moving on to the next sport (baseball for many of the kids)…..The last couple of years this matchup has been good….Coach Link at Gridley is a good coach and good guy and he always has his kids ready to play hard….for some reason the Husky kids also give max effort in this matchup….if they played as hard in other contests throughout the year as they do against Gridley there would definitely be more wins on their record.
Definitely agree that losing #6 & #7 players is hard to overcome…..those are valuable roles on any bball team, especially in matchups were your energy level needs to be as high as in a local rivalry game….unfortunately sometimes seasons can turn on a few injuries suffered throughout the season…..
Good Luck to YC and LHS Friday…..as I stated earlier, would really like to see LHS vs Foothill to see who goes to Section Final at PHP…..unfortunately, I think Faith will be lucky to stay within 20 points of Capital on Friday…..they are good, ask LHS…..
