Great job guys breaking down the games. I have to say I live for Thursday morning podcast. Your right I have no life. Want to give a shout out to the YC juniors, with a win tonight they will be 27-3 in regular season games in their high school careers. I have had 2 boys go through the football program and I get goosebumps ever Friday night. Hope everyone stays healthy. But I have to say YC win dominate Friday night. The mayors cup will be back to its rightful owner come Friiday night. Good luck to everyone

Sorry for the double post, my phone thinks its funny

  • The Mayor’s Cup will be one heck of a game! The potential for YC to win the TCC outright is motivation but we also have to remember that RV may have something more important than a trophy on the line too if the Woodland game gets overturned.

To use a racing quote: “Run watch you brung” No excuses!!

Good Luck to all three YC squads this week, let’s go for the sweep!

Hey Great Job and thanks for your support of our local teams, it is above and beyond what most see for their communities and you guys should be congratulated for all you do for our teams…….Great Breakdown of the GOTW, Mayor’s Cup always one of the biggest games of the year……and correctly stated by you both that R.V. needs to find out if it can take a punch…..in past years if you hit first against R.V. then you had a great shot of winning as most times it was hard for them to counter……this is much different than Y.C. you need 10 or 12 rounds of consistent fight against them as they will fight and claw throughout any contest…..so I think this will be a game in which we will see if R.V. can withstand the blow Y.C. will deliver and then counter with blows of their own…..as far as playoffs go, I wish both teams luck if they make it into the SJS playoffs, and we know that Y.C. will no matter what should get a home game in the 1st round….great job…..the NS has some interesting possibilities….Sutter should get by Oroville and maintain the top seed, WV should get by Corning and hold on to the No. 2 seed, but here is where it can be interesting as there is a rule that says that playoff seeds can’t counter league standings so if CV wins and WV wins, CV wins the Northern League so they would move ahead of WV no matter if WV has more points which would then be CV #2 and WV #3 then more than likely Orland #4 and Wheatland #5 (with win over Gridley) now for #7 will probably be Lassen as they should beat Yreka giving them a 3 – 2 NAL record and more points than L.O. if they beat Durham…..even with a loss I believe L.O. will get the 8 seed unless two things happen 1. Yreka beats Lassen and Winters beats Orland…..I don’t feel any of those are likely…..To wrap up, totally agree with you both on celebrating our team’s successes instead of tearing them down…..I have no issue with Y.C. being ranked #1 in the Local Area they have had a terrific year that I hope continues into and throughout the playoffs (I am a YC alum)…..I hope even with a loss to YC that RV can find a why to taste playoff football, I think that would be great for B. Asher and what he has been able to do out there under what I’m sure everyone would consider delicate circumstances….

  • Oruskin says:

Hey, Info only. River Valley got an offical win over Woodland. Woodland had to forfiet the game against RV last week due to two players playing who for some reason were not eligible. So RV is now 5-3 on the season. Check MaxPreps for the story. Pioneer turned in Woodland.

  • Oruskin says:

Your correct, the parents are always worse than the kids. These guy’s are all buddies except for the 2 hours during this game. Should be a great game and I can’t wait for Friday night. Hope to see many of you at the YC/RV game.

  • theDude says:

I hope YC gets bumped to D2. I believe these kids can compete with anyone.

  • justathought says:

I’m thinking YC crushes RV. They are the real deal. As far as Woodland forfeiting… I think that is spectacular considering they pulled the same stuff on RV baseball a few years ago…It’ds that mojo thing!!!

Good luck to all and a shout out to SU Juniors who will be 25-5 through three years with a win tonite! Had to go there Honkers… LOL!

Good luck to all tonite and congrats to many of the seniorsin our area for a great four years… hope you get some playoff games!

  • justathought says:

    Also…

Props to one of the areas finest coaches and educators who will retire from coaching JV football tonight…

    Mike Landa from SUHS

You have had more of an impact than you will EVER give yourself credit for!

  • HuskyFan says:

Just another shout to Coach Landa at SUHS, he is not only a great coach but also a great person…….Hope to see you back at some time with the whistle again….

  • Honkers win TCC says:

It was a hard hitting and hard fought win tonight for YC frosh over RV 21-6, if that atmosphere was like that for the frosh game, it will be unreal tomorrow night. Hope the 2 YC players are okay tonight that got hurt. Justathought it’s all good in the neighborhood, you had to go there.lol

  • All About HS Football says:

Good luck to all teams in the area tonight. There is a lot riding on most of the games in the area, post season hopes and/or seeding for a lot of teams. I wish I could be at the RV/YC game tonight, but other priorities take me to another game.

It will interesting to wake up tomorrow and look at the scores for all the games and see the playoff seeding projections. We have several possibilities for section titles in the area, YC, Pierce, and Sutter. What a season this has been.

  • All About HS Football says:

I too want to send out a huge thank you to coach Landa from Sutter for the person he is and coach he will always be. You have created life lasting memories for the kids you have touched from all over the North State. You have truly been coaching for all the right reasons, the kids, with no ego and a huge sense of pride.

You sill sorely be missed on the field. Good luck tonight going out in your final game with a perfect 10-0 season. What a way to end it!!!!

  • Thedude says:

Minor nitpick, calpreps rankings are the last tiebreaker for sjs seeding

  • Oruskin says:

Go to calpreps web site. They have a section where you can pit two teams against each other and by using calpreps stats they will project the winner. I ran YC agaisnt Inderkum, Grant, NU, Pleasant Grove (Inderkum beat them), Center, and Placer. They have YC losing to everyone of those teams. I don’t like calpreps either.

Good luck to everyone tonight and let’s get ready for the playoffs. YC, Sutter, RV, Live Oak, etc. stay healthy tonight and get ready…

  • Honkers win TCC says:

That’s why they play the games, ill put YC up against anyone of those teams. If you want to be the best you have beat the best. Good Luck to all tonight(except RV, sorry) . Hope all stay healthy( including RV) see I’m not a horrible person. Lol

  • SutterGal says:

Is Mike Landa retiring from coaching and teaching? Or just coaching?

  • Loveofthegame says:

Coach Landa is a Class act! So glad my son had the privilege to be coached by him! He will always be a coach & teacher my son looks up to!

Sutter gal……he is still teaching and maybe some coaching, just not in the head coach spot.

  • nodaddyball says:

yc jv smashes rv best jv team in area imho

  • JDove says:

I have to say this football season has been a long one…Much love to my Falcons last night for playing their hearts out and suprising a few people…

Congrats to YC on their TCC title…

Sutter is playing great football…Would have loved to see a Sutter/YC match up this season, just because it would have been a great football game…

Coach Landa, my son has never played for you, but you have always shown him great respect and represented yourself, your school, and your teams with great class…My nephew Caleb Parker absolutely adores you and respects you…You leave behind a legacy of touching kids lives and that is what coaching is truly about…

My son TJ did not play last night and I’d like to set all the rumors straight. He sat out of practice all week due to his injury last Friday. He was set to play last night, but I decided around 6 am Friday morning to take him to get an xray to make him feel at ease that nothing was seriously wrong. Well the joke was on me…Turns out he had broken his Fibula during the game against Woodland. This is two straight years he has had to watch the YC game from the sidelines…It was a tough one for us to swallow…

Good luck to any and all teams who made it to the playoffs…Represent our area with class and pride…

And a huge shout out to my girls volleyball team for winning it’s first solo TCC title…I love you ladies and you make me proud every day!!!

I know this is a football forum, but felt the need to say these things….

Brian, Andy and Jimmy…Great job this season in all sports…You can tell you enjoy what you do and as a coach and a parent I appreciate your efforts!!!

  • SgtVick says:

Love JDove’s comment…and agree with the assessment of Coach Landa. As for honest opinions, well…they’re all legit…until they’re truly tested

  • Coach Landa says:

Just want to say thanks to everyone for the nice comments. I have been extremely lucky to have coached such great young men and work with some outstanding coaches over the years.
I would also like to thanks the Sutter community, your support of our JV program is unmatched in the state. Game in and game out we have more fans and support than any school we play.
Coach Dove thank you. A post like that from a coach I respect is amazing. Good luck to you and your team in the playoffs.
Last but not least thanks to The Appeal for covering JV and freshmen sports. Try finding scores for these levels in any other paper. Cant do it. Ive tried for many years.
